REGARDING THE EDITOR'S OPINIONS ON FOOT ORTHOTICS:
IT IS IMPORTANT TO SEE A PODIATRIST BEFORE GETTING ANY CUSTOM MOLDED ORTHOTIC. A PODIATRIST CAN GENERALLY PERFORM A BIOMECHANICAL EXAM AND GAIT ANALYSIS AND PRESCRIBE A CUSTOM MOLDED FOOT ORTHOTIC. BY TAKING A CAST OF THE FOOT IN IT'S OPTIMUM POSITION AND PRESCRIBING THE PROPPER ORTHOTICS NEEDED IS AN ATTEMPT TO TRY TO TREAT VARIOUS FOOT PROBLEMS. THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES. SOMETIMES ORTHOTICS CAN BE VERY BENEFICIAL WHEN PRESCRIBED AND CASTED BY A PODIATRIST. FOR EXAMPLE I USED AN ORTHOTIC THAT WAS CALLED THE STJ HEEL SPUR SPECIAL FOR HEEL PAIN AND WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THE RESULTS. SOMETIMES ORTHOTICS DO NOT WORK.

I feel that in some cases, one has to have a gait analysis and static exam before foot orthotics are fabricated. To play it safe, why not discuss your condition with a podiatrist for their
opinion. Also sometimes if your shoes are too small, no matter how good an orthotic
is able to control your foot, if it cannot fit into your shoe, then you cannot use it.
If you try to adjust the orthotic to fit into your shoe, perhaps you are defeating the
purpose of the orthotic, because your orthotic if altered too much may decrease the
ability to control abnormal foot pronation or other biomechanical faults.

I SOMETIMES RECOMMEND ARCH SUPPORTS FOR SOME OF MY PATIENTS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE ARCH SUPPORTS UNLESS A PODIATRIST OR OTHER QUALIFIED LICENSED HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL RECOMMENDS THIS. THIS WEBSITE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY OF THE PRODUCTS ADVERTISED ON IT

Coming soon may be links to various different orthotic labs that may agree on the importance of seeing podiatrists.
